Ten Things I’ve Learned in My First Year of Blogging

Ten Things I've Learned in My First Year of Blogging

01. Packaging

I have learned that I really dislike reflective packaging. I get so frustrated taking pictures, as I’m OCC about my pictures having quality. Seeing my goofy self reflected back in the package does not meet my quality of high standards. I’ve gone to the extent of taping my fingers the back of paper to hold right next to the product, so even my fingers holding the paper won’t reflect back.

02. Skin Care

I have learned that there are too many skincare companies out there, all for the most part claiming one of two things, either winkle free or acne free. With that said I’ve concluded I am not a good candidate for skincare regimens as I was blessed with good skin and trying a variety of products is only going to screw up what I got going. I’ve started turning down most facial skincare products.

03. Make-up & Hair Brands

I have discovered many new brands even in my first year of blogging. I have also learned that some of my favorite products are rated low by other bloggers and vice versa. That’s what makes this blogging thing so incredible, as you discover people with common interests and learn about new products through their discovery or reviews. I have also discovered a few brands that I can’t do without and so thankful that I was introduced to their products.

04. Videos

I have learned that more of my friends than I originally imagined watch my videos, especially my guy friends, only to later make fun of me. But much to my surprise I’ve had several of them start asking me about men’s skincare.

05. AdSense is Senseless

I have learned Ad Sense weren’t worth the hassle. I was making pennies a day and I could swear the royalty system is in it’s own world. The most money I ever made in one day was a few dollars and on this particular day, I know for a fact I wasn’t even on the internet, because I was at Disney World riding rides all day! #weird If I had thousands of views on my videos, I could understand placing the ads, but until that day comes, I’ll monetize my blog in other ways.

06. I Love the Blogosphere

I don’t have many girlfriends, as most of them are married with kids and hang out with other couples with kids. But I have met some wonderful people through blogging. I really consider some of you ladies my friends, even though we have never met in person. #catfish (lol) Maybe one day we’ll be able to attend a makeup show together and buy lots of goodies.

07. Blog Name

I wish I had come up with a clever blog name, instead of just Ashley Elizabeth’s Beauty Blog. #boring I’ll be the first to admit I’m not very clever with naming…one more reason I shouldn’t have kids. I already had the domain name before I started the blog, so being cheap, I decided to just keep it and add a blog subdomain, but even a few months into it, I wish I had come up with a cute name. Since then I have, but I’m still in debates if it’s really worth all the change.

08. Giveaways

I’ve learned a lot from giveaways. I knew I wanted to offer monthly giveaways to give back to my readers before I started the blog, but I never would have imagined the responses and feedback I’d get. Some of my smaller giveaways have gotten more feedback than I ever would have imagined…people truly love getting free stuff. I also learned that shipping internationally isn’t as expense as I originally would have imagined…it just can take forever to be delivered. Hence my six week delivery terms in the giveaway rules.

09. GIF Queen

I have learned that I’m obsessed with animated (.gif) files. I believe they make my blog more visually appeasing verses just static images. I started making custom (.gif) intros in September to all of my post. I use these to promote each post throughout all my social networks.

10. CSS Nerd

As you can probably tell I have custom CSS all over this blog, as all my posts look completely different when imported or shared. I used to be obsessed with Macromedia Flash Actionscripting, but since no one uses Flash anymore I have come custom to use CSS in all my website/ blog designs. I also added a “Blog Design” section, as I have had many requests for blog design.

I have learned many other things about people, myself and time but I have enjoyed every minute of it. I hope to continue to bring my readers posts and giveaways that you enjoy. I am so grateful for each and everyone of you and your support. ♥
